As president at Philip Thomas Construction, Joan Harpootlian Thomas is responsible for the overall company operations. She brings more than 40 years of business experience and leadership focused on developing and delivering business services and solutions. Joan has been President at Philip Thomas Construction since its inception more than 30 years ago, in 1985. She excels at providing outstanding client service and driving profitable revenue growth for the company.
With a career dedicated to business excellence, Joan Harpootlian Thomas is highly respected and has consistently led award-winning teams to success, while being recognized for her various achievements, such as the recipient of a Meritorious Service Award, Distinguished Service Award, Women in Business Award, and numerous additional professional awards for outstanding service.
Joan Harpootlian Thomas holds several local board affiliations and is an active member of Charlotte’s vibrant business community.
Allie Thomas brings more than a decade of corporate expertise focused on business development, marketing, and finance. Allie inherited her father's laser-sharp attention to detail and brings that to the table in numerous senior management roles throughout her career.
A love of architecture, design, and the built environment fuels her passion for the custom home building industry, while her experience and strong business acumen, and analytical approach provide the necessary skillset for continued success at Philip Thomas Construction.
Allie holds a BSc in Business Administration with a focus in Corporate Finance and Marketing from the University of South Carolina.
Jeff brings 30 years of construction experience to the Philip Thomas Builder team. Sandwiched in between 18 years of commercial, industrial, hospital and academic building is a twelve-year partnership with Philip Thomas building on Bald Head Island. Four homes from this venture were featured in Coastal Living magazine between 2001 and 2005, speaking to the quality and success of the team as well as the working relationship with the owners and architects.
Also successfully partnered with his wife of 42 years, Donnis, they enjoy playing and writing music, cooking and gardening. When he finds spare time Jeff also tinkers with writing short stories and novels.
John brings over 30 years of experience managing complex construction projects in several different markets. He has a proven track record for organizing and leading teams to complete challenging projects on schedule and within budget efficiently. John pays acute attention to detail in all aspects of the building process. He holds a BS degree in Construction Management from Purdue University.
John has two daughters, 14 and 11, and enjoys being a father. John also enjoys mission work and has been on several mission trips to Guatemala.
A North Carolina native through and through, Tom was born in Chapel Hill on Jan 29, 1959. He moved to Charlotte in 1961 and lived in Cotswold. After graduating from West Charlotte High School in 1977, Tom graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. Early on, Tom possessed a passion for the home-building craft. After working in construction over many summers, he discovered his true passion for the craft of custom home building and further honed his skills in the industry while living in Houston, Texas from 1981-1984.
Tom married Dawn Rufty in 1983 and has lived in Charlotte since, continuing to develop a successful and highly respected career in the Construction industry. Dawn and Tom have two daughters and a son, all adults and successfully navigating the business world. In recent news, they were delighted to welcome their first granddaughter, now six months old and super cute!
